Jet skiing, once considered a luxury sport reserved for tourists, is now gaining popularity as a competitive water sport in India. The 2024 Indian Jet Skiing Championships, held in Goa, attracted participants from across the country and neighboring nations. Arjun D’Souza, a local Goan athlete, took home the title in the pro-amateur category, marking a significant moment for the sport in India.
Jet skiing is growing rapidly in coastal states like Goa, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. The Indian Jet Skiing Federation (IJSF) has been instrumental in promoting the sport, organizing events and ensuring that participants have access to quality equipment. Local water sports operators are also providing training and renting equipment, making the sport more accessible to the general public.
Challenges, such as the high cost of equipment and a lack of dedicated racing venues, remain, but the sport is gaining momentum. As more young athletes take up jet skiing, it is expected to grow into a major competitive water sport in India.
